It's always good to leave home and go back "home", but it's also good to be back home. The one thing about going back "home", especially to where I am from, is the great food! The really good, bad food. I rarely eat red meat and I had a chicken fried steak, two bacon cheeseburgers (not at the same time or same day), and my grandmother made a roast. I did not feel well at all eating all of that, but it was good. There was loads of Mexican food and some good Japanese food. Catching up with friends and family over good food really can put on the pounds. I think I gained..... drum roll please.... about 5-7 pounds. Ugh and I can feel it, too. I can't get my rings on my finger! First time ever! I'm sure a lot of it is the sodium content and fat that I normally do not cook with and there was also more sitting around than usual. But... it was fun! I had a wonderful time visiting with my grandmother, great aunt and great uncle, my in-laws drove in from New Mexico to see us for a few days and I had a really good visit with my ex-mother-in-law and sister-in-law that I hadn't seen in so long! Yes, for all of those wondering I have a wonderful relationship with my "ex" family... it is possible! So, overall, despite eating poorly and packing on the pounds this past week it was a wonderful week away!
The countdown has begun and my husband will be home on Thursday!!! It's almost too hard to believe! Tomorrow I will sit down and write out menus and go grocery shopping. It will be so nice to cook for the hubster again!
So, that is the update and I will be posting some new articles and recipes in the next few days!

I ate fake food today.
Ok, so really, I do not eat clean 100% of the time... not even close, but I am trying and everyday is better. However... today I had a little rebellion to eating clean. I really wanted to make some homemade chex mix and since we had an unopened box of chex cereal leftover from company I thought hmmmmm..... "chex mix sure sounds like a yummy.... LUNCH!". Nope, it wasn't even for a small snack it ended up being lunch. Boy, was it good!!! Then I thought to my not-so-brilliant self, "ohhhh, a nice cherry limeade from around the corner would be a great way to wash this down!". Yes, the cherry limeade was tasty.... very tasty....and then..... my body went into shock and proceeded to protest everything that I just put into it. Ugh... I was sick for hours, yes hours! Can you imagine what we are doing to our bodies when we put processed foods in our bodies every meal, every day? My body has quit yelling at me, but it definitely wanted to teach me a lesson!

There once was a girl....
... who couldn't keep up with two things at once! I know, I know you have heard the story before. :) I blog a lot, Facebook suffers..... I get sucked into Facebook, my blog is history! I have been off of Facebook for a while now and have had a few nudges from some dear ole' friends to continue blogging and so here I am with bells on. My other blog(s,s,s, ha!) were so neglected that they drifted into the vast, deep, dark spaces of the endless blog world... translation, I actually could NOT remember my log-in information. So sad, I know.
Here I am blogging again, aren't you so lucky?! Wait... don't answer that! If you have a gmail account, twitter account, or a yahoo account you may click on the little link on the right that says "Follow Me" and you will be notified when I post a new blog. If you don't want to "Follow Me" but you would like to follow me (confusing, I know) let me know and I will add your e-mail to the list to be automatically sent anything I blog into your inbox. If you would like to come drop by on your own accord that is perfectly ok, too.
I will stop here for now only because I am typing using only 4 fingers on my right hand. I had a fight with a food processor... it won... lesson learned 7 stitches later. My stitches come out Thursday and then I will be a blogging mess... in a good way!

Why this blog is here.
I am a 35 year old female on a journey to find a way, a true way, to lose weight, be healthy and live better. I have been on the fence for a few years about becoming a vegetarian. I rarely actually enjoy meat, but there are a few things that I really like occasionally; chicken parmesan, a good bacon cheeseburger, spaghetti w/meat sauce, sesame chicken... I think you get the idea.
These things I know for sure, I have bad reactions to MSG, aspartame, processed foods in boxes, paprika, chili powder, milk, at times sugar and the list seems to keep growing. I have been diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and I.R. (Insulin Resistance). I have had a history of migraines since I was 6 years old. I have had hormone problems since I was very young and have never been able to sustain a pregnancy. I have been to many doctors and chiropractors over the years. The Chiropractor's did help with some of my headaches and backpain and the MD's just wanted to throw drugs my way to make me "feel" better, but I needed to do more. I felt that it was way past time for a food change.
More and more stories are coming out about certain foods (or lack of certain foods) helping people with diabetes, endemetriosis, PCOS, heart conditions, ADD, ADHD, depression and the list goes on and on and on. We really are killing ourselves with what we put in our mouths and the chemicals and additives added to those foods. God did not create our bodies to ingest and digest all of those chemicals, additives and man made things that we have all made part of our daily diets.
It's no secret the the American diet is filled with unhealthy food and given to us in larger than life portions. We have been told carbs are bad, carbs are good, fat is bad, no you need some fat, sugar free, fat free and it goes on and on. So many people are very confused on what is considered "healthy". I know that when I went to Weight Watchers for a while they encouraged and sold foods that had many ingredients in them that I had already cut out of my diet. They say do not eat butter, rather eat these margarine types filled with chemicals because it saves you a few calories. I want to eat real food and I want to be able to pronounce the ingredients that are in the foods that I eat. Yes, I did lose some weight with Weight Watchers, but I was still having my headaches that would develop within 30 minutes of eating some of the "healthy" foods that were recommended. I just didn't feel good.
Eight years ago my husband came across a book called, "What The Bible Says About Healthy Living". He was in the military and deployed to another country at the time that he took the information in the book and applied it to his lifestyle. He lost about 30 pounds during that time and felt great. After that time he moved back to the states and adapted back to the American diet and you guessed it, the weight came back on. One of his hobbies became eating and one of my true loves is cooking, so we became a perfect pair. Over the years we had loaned our book out to a friend and it never made its way back home. I just purchased this book again and was happy to discover that there is now a cookbook applying the same principles.
Please keep in mind that these things that are mentioned in the Bible were written under the old Law that God had in place and because of Jesus we are no longer under this Law. However, it is clear that God knew what He was doing when He created our food supply and He had reasons for allowing us to eat certain things and having us avoid other things. Even when my husband did this before he didn't give up his coffee (which the books suggests) and he allowed himself a sugary dessert once a week (filled with stuff I'm positive that isn't good for us). You do not have to follow these principles, but I do believe that the more you apply to your diet and life the better you will feel and have more energy. Hence, being a cleaner vessel for Him to use.
I hope you will join me in a discovery about not only what the Bible says about healthy living, but I will also be exploring different cultures around the world and how their eating benefits them. I'm excited, this will be fun! However, first I will take you on a brief guided tour of the book, "What the Bible Says About Healthy Living" for those that are interested. Let's go!
